Amelia's best training tips

Find your "why"

Why do you want to start exercising? Or maybe you've been training for many years, but the motivation is starting to die out? My first and best tip is to sit down and find out why you want to start a lifestyle change. The most important thing is that it comes from within, there must be a flame in you. What do you want to achieve with the training and how do you get there? Have you always wanted to participate in the "Birkebeinerløpet", or do you just want to get to the top floor without being breathless? How about getting significantly stronger, or getting rid of some pain in the body? It doesn't matter what it is, but it will lay the foundation for your training.

Make it easy

It all starts when you make a choice. Exercise doesn't have to be very advanced, as many feel in everyday life. Once you've figured out why you want to make a change, the next step will be to actually start. A 20 minute walk in the neighborhood, in the woods or on a treadmill will make a big difference to everyone, not just those starting from the couch.

Follow a training program

Once again, it's all about making it easy. When you have a plan written down, the doorstep mile automatically feels a little shorter. I would recommend anyone to use a personal trainer, whether you are a beginner or have been training for a lifetime. Then you will be able to get a new perspective on both yourself and the training, and be challenged in completely new ways. Having someone to guide you through training often feels very reassuring, and a coach just wants you to reach your utmost potential. If you prefer to work out on your own, I would still recommend a program that consists of both strength and endurance training. Even 20 minutes of strength training two days a week will help improve the body.

Be patient

It's going to be tough, it's going to be tiring and motivation will vary. You want ups and downs, and although the downs may feel bigger, I can promise there will be more ups if you endure. Hold on to your goal, hold on to yourself, and the future version of yourself, then the results will come.
